FLL “Super-Powered” Challenge

This year FLL’s theme was “Super-Powered”, this theme dealt with how energy is distributed in our communities and how we can make it better. We had 2 teams this year of 6 kids each, their team names were “BLK (Bright Lego Kids) and Robot-X. They explored the different ways we gather and distribute energy, like; Solar, Hydro, Kinetic, Thermal, etc. They each chose one specific way of energy distribution.  Robot-X went with Kinetic energy by learning about Wind-Turbines and how they work and the other team chose Hydro energy so they created a Dam with a mechanism that would allow for water to flow faster.

They were studying about all of this and also learning to program a robot in a block based programming software called Mindstorm. Not to mention that during this whole process they always needed to maintain the “Core Values” present. FLL’s main thing is “What we learn is more important than what we win” and it is shown by the core values which are “Discovery, Innovation, Impact, Teamwork, Inclusion and Fun”. These values are extremely important to maintain present since it allows us to be and act “human”, to care and help each other no matter what differences we may have.

I invite more kids to join this incredible learning experience. It is something that if you aren’t in it, you can’t really appreciate. But it’s awesome, and the kids have so much fun.

Join Us for next year’s challenge….”Master Piece”
