Overview

Our commitment at Ashton School is to ensure that as soon as our kiddos come in through our gates they feel the warmth, love and care that we have to offer. Students love their school and feel confident. It is our job then to allow them to shine in their own special way; opening the doors to innumerable opportunities and offerings to indulge our students and help them develop their interests and talents. Developing independent and collaborative thinkers and citizens, sensitive to the needs of others is one of the capstones of our school’s character and values program.

At Ashton we are moved to serve, impact and transform the hearts of our students.

The Elementary School curriculum is a challenging academic program informed by the U.S. National Common Core State Standards. Our academic curriculum also includes Spanish and Sociales (Dominican Social Studies) classes, based on the Dominican Standards. All students from Pre Kinder to 6th grade attend co-curricular classes that include fine arts, music, character education, technology, and physical education. The physical education classes are taught two days per week, alternating swimming and physiscal education.

Elementary students also participate in community service projects and interscholastic sports. Rich cultural projects and leadership experiences enhance our attainable but challenging program. Some examples include Model United Nations (MUN) for upper elementary students, Spelling Bee participation, advanced reading club, Lego League, introduction to Project-Based Learning (PBL), community service projects, academic and science fairs among others.

In our continuous journey of offering highly rated research-based programs, we have implemented the Teachers College Readers and Writers Project, a highly successful approach that presents methods and tools for the teaching of reading and writing through research, curriculum development. This research-based approach aims to turn children into life long, confident readers and writers who display agency and independence.
